The Tornado sails are one of our favourites to build and to sail with as well! This class has a past within our brand and in the past couple of years the Tornado 1D Sails stood on the podium on the World Championship.

We took two directions on the development of the Tornado Sails. We offer a racing and speed optimised design that we’ve worked on with Brett Burwill, who stood on the podium multiple times, won the mixed Tornado World Championship title in 2016 with Estella Jentsch, and recently won the 2019 Tornado Worlds with Max Puttman. The other platform and development was created for our loft at Lake Balaton, in Hungary, where we’ve fine-tuned the design for lighter wind and weather conditions to compete against other 20 foot catamarans.

Tornado Product Details

The Mainsail, the jib and the Gennaker for the Tornado comes in a flatter and a fuller design. Weather you choose the right shape for your team or you prefer one or the other for easier control, it’s your choice. Mix and match the sails as it works best for your or as the weather dictates. If you wan’t to be ready for all circumstances make sure you have both shapes ready.

DESIGN OPTIONS

The 1D mainsails, jibs and gennakers for the Tornado class are offered in two shapes. Choose the right shape depending on your crew’s weight, weather conditions and wind or your preference for steering and controllability.

FLATTER DESIGN
The flatter design is the preferred choice for lightweight teams, for higher wind range and for more controllability.

FULLER DESIGN
The fuller design is the preferred choice for the strongest sailors and for maximum power.

TORNADO SAILS

MAINSAIL
The Tornado mainsail is designed in a radial construction for high speed and racing in mind. It is offered in both shapes. The crosscut construction guarantees easier handling over the sail. We use a durable pentex material so your sails last as long as possible.

JIB
The 1D Tornado Jib is also using a radial design and construction and is offered in a flatter and a fuller design. It is made from the same pentex material as the mainsail.

GENNAKER
The Gennaker for the Tornado is made from nylon, that comes in many colours. The flatter shape is recommended for lighter weather conditions and flatter water, while you should choose the fuller one for bigger waves and when you want to slide deeper in the water.
